One card for every sector

High-risk level: valid for any job involving food

There are “low-risk” or single-sector cards that stop being useful when you change jobs. Ours is high-risk and multi-sector: it covers everything from a restaurant kitchen to a supermarket checkout, and it is yours, not your employer’s. If you change jobs, you hand over a copy and it remains valid.

Anyone in direct contact with food must be trained in food hygiene, and the employer must be able to prove it (Reg. EC 852/2004).

Valid throughout Spain

Since Royal Decree 109/2010 there is no longer an official card issued by the public administration: training food handlers is the responsibility of the food business and can be provided by any training provider. Our certificate proves that you have completed training in food hygiene and safety in line with European and Spanish regulations, and it is the document the employer keeps for the health inspection.

What nobody tells you

There is no “official” or “accredited” card

You will see websites with government crests and the word “accredited”. Since 2010 no public administration issues or approves food handler cards; the Spanish food safety agency (AESAN) says so itself. That is why you will not find official logos here: what counts is the training you receive and who signs it.

What the law says

Royal Decree 109/2010 repealed the official card. The food business is responsible for ensuring its food handlers are trained, and can prove it with training from any provider.

What the inspector looks for

That there is a certificate listing the training contents, signed and stamped by the provider, and suited to the job. Our certificate details the contents and can be verified online with its number or the QR code.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay to take the course or the exam?

No. The course and the exam are free and require no sign-up. You only pay the €16.95 if you pass and want to receive your Certificate + Card.

How long does it take to arrive?

With Bizum or card, the PDF is generated instantly and you receive it by email within minutes. By bank transfer, as soon as we see the payment (usually the same working day).

Is it valid for a health inspection?

Yes. The regulations (Reg. EC 852/2004 and Royal Decree 109/2010) require food handlers to be trained in food hygiene and the employer to be able to prove it; there is no official card issued by the public administration. Our certificate has a unique number and can be verified on this website.

Does it expire?

Our certificate is valid for 4 years, and the date is printed on the document itself. The law does not set a deadline, but it requires ongoing training, and employers and inspectors ask for a recent date. One month before it expires we email you so you can renew it in 10 minutes. You can check here whether your card is still valid.

What is the difference between the certificate and the card?

None in terms of validity: the certificate is the A4 document kept by the employer and the card is the wallet-sized format to carry with you. You receive both in the same PDF.

What if I don’t pass?

You can retake the exam as many times as you need, free of charge. We tell you which units to review.

Is the certificate in English?

The course, the exam and this website are in English. The certificate and card are issued in Spanish, because they are the documents your employer keeps for the Spanish health inspection, with one line in English describing what they certify.
